2015-8-12  The Ultrasonic Pulse Echo method was used to test a 12 foot by 8 foot reinforced concrete slab. The reinforcement consists of a 5 inch by 5 inch No. 3 rebar mesh at 3 inches (75 mm) deep. The expected thickness of the slab is approximately 15 inches (376 mm). Before testing the whole slab, the equipment was calibrated at areas that showed no defects. After calibration, the shear wave speed to be used to test the whole slab was determined to be 2,850 m/s. In order to quickly asses the slab, a preliminary testing grid was established.
